Our Founding Vision
The Sanibel Captiva Coffee Company (“SanCap Coffee”) began with the vision of my father-in-law, William “Bill” J. Wilcop Jr., who was determined to develop premium, fresh roasted coffees with aromas and flavors unique to the Sanibel and Captiva Islands located off the coast of Fort Myers in Southwest Florida. Bill moved to Fort Myers full-time in 1998 after falling in love with the natural beauty, tropical climate, and especially the intrinsic charm and distinctive ambiance of Sanibel and Captiva Islands.
Family and Community Roots
In creating the Sanibel Captiva Coffee Company, Bill hoped to create a connection between Southwest Florida enthusiasts and the islands that he loved. Bill was inspired to create a company that could provide a unique connection between the islands of Southwest Florida and the exquisite taste and aroma of SanCap Coffee. In doing so, he succeeded in sharing the splendor and magnificence of Sanibel and Captiva Islands with the world.
The love of Southwest Florida and the tradition to spend all holidays, vacations, and free time in Fort Myers, and on Sanibel and Captiva Islands was prominent as our family grew. Our oldest child began attending Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) in August 2021, and our second oldest began at FGCU in August 2022, which coincided with our year-round relocation to Southwest Florida. Our oldest is now a teacher at The Sanibel School, our second oldest is a Business major at FGCU and she is excited to be an integral part of carrying on the SanCap Coffee Company tradition. Our third child is entering his senior year at Fort Myers High School and looking at his college opportunities at a number of Florida universities. Our fourth child attends The Sanibel School where he has embraced the exceptional sense of community throughout the school.
